Worship Matters 5/15/2012 - Kids sing, Defining Our Sound, Horn Wanted, Conference Recap
Franz Brothers at TBC
It was great to have the Franz Brothers with us this past weekend at TBC?! A thank you to Mark Congdon for his connections and spearheading bringing them. If you missed them, here's a video of what you missed. By the way, someone asked, "What style of music did they play?" It's basically a progressive version of bluegrass. Some call it Newgrass.
Defining Our Sound: A blog post by Kaleb Wilcox
Music is a big part of our corporate worship during Sunday services at TBC. As a result, we work very hard preparing and executing those elements each week. But there are a lot of variables that need to come together...read more at www.kalebwilcox.com

Over the next several days, I'll be posting my thoughts and notes taken from the conference over at my blog -http://bryanknelson.com/

Wanted: Double French Horn
I've got a friend, on staff at a church, who is looking for a double horn. A double horn, means it has both the Bb and F sides to the french horn. If you have one collecting dust, and are willing to let go of it for a admirable price — please email Bryan at bryanknelson@gmail.com.

Worship Matters 4/11/2012 - Easter rewind, Overflow worship event
Overflow worship event April 22
If you haven't been to the Overflow worship event — Sunday, April 22 at 6:30pm is an event you'll want to mark on your calendar. Overflow happens four times a year. It is open to anyone from any denomination. Many people from a variety of churches come together to make these evenings happen. Several from TBC are involved. So come out for a time to reflect, celebrate, and Worship our God and Savior. Childcare is available for ages 0-36 months. Click Here to checkout Overflow on Facebook. The next Overflow will be on April 22nd, 6:30pm, at Fellowship Bible Church.

TBC Easter rewind
What a weekend! From Good Friday to Easter, many of you put in hours and hours of time. Why? Because people need to know who Christ is. Easter is one of those moments when we have ONE shot. Non-believers may decide to come ONCE a year. We may only have ONE opportunity to explain who Christ is, what He's done, why He's done it, and for who. Each one of you who were off stage, on stage, writing music, laying cable, catering meals, stuffing music, programming lights, feeding lyrics, singing, playing instruments, and praying for people — a huge thank you. May God bless you this week as you had a tired Monday at work and school. God give you strength as you make up time on Tuesday. God give you endurance this week. If you missed Easter and want to see the music part of it again — here's Part 1 andPart 2 of TBC's Easter Sunday.

Where'd we get the Easter opening concept?
Some have asked where the concept for the opening Easter video/music came from. There's a church in Tulsa, OK called "Church on the Move" that did this same opener in 2010. If you wanted to see what it looked like when they did it — you can see it here.

Worship Matters 3/27/2012 - Easter rehearsal, TBC stage design featured, Overflow worship event
A note about Thursday Easter rehearsal, extended band rehearsal
This is a busy season for the worship arts family. Good Friday is coming up, followed by Easter. I wanted to mention that the rehearsal for Easter will go past 8pm for the band and techs on Thursday, April 5. The vocal team will be done by 8pm, but the band will most likely stay past 8pm. If you are in the band — you'll want to make a note of the extended time. Why the extended rehearsal? Mainly because we have ONE shot for those who normally don't come to church on Easter. We want to make extra certain that this ONE shot counts. It will be worth our extra time. Would you take a moment right now and say a prayer for someone who will be coming this Easter? Pray specifically that every element would meet them where they are — and move them to where God wants them to be.
CSDI features TBC stage design
If you follow Kaleb's blog (kalebwilcox.com) — then you'll already know that TBC was featured again on the CSDI website (Church Stage Design Ideas). Check out the article on the nitty gritty details of what went into the design. Hope you've enjoyed the design — it will eventually change in the next few months.

A change to worship arts family prayer list
For about 4 years, we've had a worship arts family prayer list. We've internally kept up with this prayer list. But it's now time to consolidate to make things more simple — and give a broader prayer net for the whole church. All worship arts family prayer items will now be a part of the church-at-large prayer email list. If you'd like to be a part of this email list — simply send an email to Leoti at the office and we'll get you signed up. You can email Leoti atleoti@discovertbc.com
Why do you do what you do?
It's impossible to know exactly what the future holds. However, planning for contingencies and being prepared for the unforeseen is vitally important. When you're selecting and installing equipment that costs thousands of dollars, this becomes paramount. It's part of being a good steward of time and resources and it definitely makes life easier when the unforeseen appears... Read more at Bryan's blog.

Worship Matters 3/7/2012 - Video upgrade, no rehearsal this week
TBC to upgrade to full HD video production system
We've got one shot on the weekend to have people experience God — maybe for the very first time. As a result, we invest resources in how we communicate weekly. That's why you may notice some visual improvements. TBC will soon be getting an upgraded full HD video production system. Kaleb Wilcox (Tech Arts Director) has a nice write up over at his blog. Head on over to Kaleb's blog (www.kalebwilcox.com) to read the details.

No Thursday rehearsal this week — trying something different
We "always have rehearsal on Thursday" — except for this week. Without spilling the beans, we are trying something a little different this week. It's not earth shattering, just different. So come on Sunday to check it out.

TBC Worship Matters - 3 Reasons, Seeking Worship Leader, New Song
3 Reasons to Rehearse
Recently, there was someone at TBC who came to rehearsal — even though they weren't leading worship that weekend. It's only happened a handful of times in the 15 years I've been doing this. So I took notice.
That got me thinking about rehearsals.
Rehearsals for worship environments get a bad rap. Can you blame people? Read more...

Worship Maters 2/8/2012 - Orchestra, how the music got there
Orchestra this week, rehearsal this Saturday at 9:30am
If you are in the orchestra, this Saturday will be our first rehearsal of this season. Rehearsal begins at 9:30am. Orchestra music will be in folders at rehearsal. But if you would like to glance at the music ahead of time, here's a link to download the full 132 PDF pages of the orchestral music this week. So please don't blindly print it. That's a lot of copies, isn't it?! That brings up another point...how the music got there (read on).
How 132 pages of orchestra music got here this week
Every time the orchestra plays, it's a mammoth librarian task. Each instrument gets a different part. The parts need to be assembled and organized into folders. All of this takes time. A lot of time. I wanted you to know we have an un-paid staff orchestra librarian. I call her "staff" because many churches pay administrative help to pull this kind of thing together. Her name is Linda Gifford. If you know who she is, tell her thank you for her availability and using her skills to put this together. If you don't know who Linda is or what she does, hopefully this sheds light on what she does as a volunteer. Remember, what happens ON STAGE is because of what happens OFF STAGE. Praise God for servants like Linda Gifford and many others who give their time regularly (Patty Rogenmoser, Don Petersen).

Worship Matters 1/31/2012 - Nice job vocalists, where'd Bryan go?
Nicely done Vocal Team.
What a great time of worship this past weekend with you all! I absolutely LOVE when the Vocal Team is scheduled to lead worship. Know that God appreciates your availability and your spirit of serving in the Vocal Team. I started to mention backstage how I've always wanted to be a part of a modern worship choir, and you guys are it. You're worshipping. You're having fun. You're hip. Looking forward to the next time you guys lead worship. Remember, it's one of the greatest purposes this side of heaven. Please log on if you haven't accepted/declined your invitations.

If you're like me, whenever a website that I use changes, it can be confusing at first. So here's a video that may help you discover some of the new features that are available to you. As always email me (bryan@discovertbc.com) if you have any questions. Watch video on new features.
UPDATE on LA singers schedule, no Thursday rehearsals, come Sunday at 7:15 AM
We tried the new schedule for several weeks now (coming Sunday at 7:15 AM instead of Thursday PM). It seems to be working well so far. So we will continue it. We made changes in the schedule at planningcenteronline.com to each of your schedules if you were scheduled for LA. In a nutshell, here's the new schedule. You will no longer be required to come to Thursday night's rehearsal. Instead, you will simply need to show up on Sunday for a run through at 7:15 AM, then run through the service at 8 AM, and then lead worship at 9:30 AM. This should allow you to save a weekday evening, and still get to rehearse after the band has already put together all of the music. There will be no change for those who lead worship in the main auditorium. If you lead worship in the main auditorium, you still need to come to rehearsal on Thursday evenings. If you have any questions - shoot me an email (bryan@discovertbc.com) or give me a call at 785-234-5545.
