Worship Maters 2/8/2012 - Orchestra, how the music got there
Orchestra this week, rehearsal this Saturday at 9:30am
If you are in the orchestra, this Saturday will be our first rehearsal of this season. Rehearsal begins at 9:30am. Orchestra music will be in folders at rehearsal. But if you would like to glance at the music ahead of time, here's a link to download the full 132 PDF pages of the orchestral music this week. So please don't blindly print it. That's a lot of copies, isn't it?! That brings up another point...how the music got there (read on).
How 132 pages of orchestra music got here this week
Every time the orchestra plays, it's a mammoth librarian task. Each instrument gets a different part. The parts need to be assembled and organized into folders. All of this takes time. A lot of time. I wanted you to know we have an un-paid staff orchestra librarian. I call her "staff" because many churches pay administrative help to pull this kind of thing together. Her name is Linda Gifford. If you know who she is, tell her thank you for her availability and using her skills to put this together. If you don't know who Linda is or what she does, hopefully this sheds light on what she does as a volunteer. Remember, what happens ON STAGE is because of what happens OFF STAGE. Praise God for servants like Linda Gifford and many others who give their time regularly (Patty Rogenmoser, Don Petersen).
Topeka churches combine for Arts Festival (written by Brian Williams)
“For the Beauty… A Festival of the Arts” is coming February 17 – 19, sponsored by Topeka’s five downtown churches. Worship Matters 1/31/2012 - Nice job vocalists, where'd Bryan go?
Nicely done Vocal Team.
What a great time of worship this past weekend with you all! I absolutely LOVE when the Vocal Team is scheduled to lead worship. Know that God appreciates your availability and your spirit of serving in the Vocal Team. I started to mention backstage how I've always wanted to be a part of a modern worship choir, and you guys are it. You're worshipping. You're having fun. You're hip. Looking forward to the next time you guys lead worship. Remember, it's one of the greatest purposes this side of heaven. Please log on if you haven't accepted/declined your invitations.

New online scheduling look and features.
The next time that you log on to Planning Center online.com, you might notice a change to the look. You'll also notice that there may be some new conditions and features. If you're like me, whenever a website that I use changes, it can be confusing at first. So here's a video that may help you discover some of the new features that are available to you. As always email me (bryan@discovertbc.com) if you have any questions. Watch video on new features.
UPDATE on LA singers schedule, no Thursday rehearsals, come Sunday at 7:15 AM
We tried the new schedule for several weeks now (coming Sunday at 7:15 AM instead of Thursday PM). It seems to be working well so far. So we will continue it. We made changes in the schedule at planningcenteronline.com to each of your schedules if you were scheduled for LA. In a nutshell, here's the new schedule. You will no longer be required to come to Thursday night's rehearsal. Instead, you will simply need to show up on Sunday for a run through at 7:15 AM, then run through the service at 8 AM, and then lead worship at 9:30 AM. This should allow you to save a weekday evening, and still get to rehearse after the band has already put together all of the music. There will be no change for those who lead worship in the main auditorium. If you lead worship in the main auditorium, you still need to come to rehearsal on Thursday evenings. If you have any questions - shoot me an email (bryan@discovertbc.com) or give me a call at 785-234-5545.

Worship Matters 1/10/2012 - Light Show Team, Change to LA schedule
To the Light Show team...you guys are AWESOME.
Talent broker – that’s my role. I’d like to say I’m God’s talent broker, but maybe it’s better stated that I broker the talent on God’s behalf. Sometimes I wonder why God is called me to this role. I find myself at the center of many talented people — way more talented than myself. Read more...
Change to LA singer schedule, no Thursday rehearsals, come Sunday at 7:15am
For the next month or so we will be making a change for those who are scheduled to lead worship in LA (lower auditorium). In a nutshell, there will be no more Thursday rehearsals. Instead you will come early on Sunday AM. In the past you would come to Thursday night rehearsal, and then the 8 AM worship service to run through. This will change in this upcoming month or two. What a Non-Techy, Normal Person Learned at a Tech Conference
Written by Carrie Davidson, guest writer at Kaleb Wilcox's blog...
I’m not techy by nature. I don’t have a knack for understanding networks, audio systems, or anything that requires electricity. In my home, I delegate the operation and maintenance of items that have wires to my electrical engineer husband, Chris. Given my propensity to not understand technology, it was definitely a “God thing” that, about a year ago, I somehow ended up as a volunteer in the technical arts department at Topeka Bible Church. And by some additional miracle (or accident maybe?), I recently travelled to Dallas with a group of technical arts staff and volunteers from Topeka Bible Church...read more.

Worship Matters 11/8/2011 - TBC Stage Design Featured, Techs Travel to WFX Conference
Reminder: Rehearsal this week will be Saturday, not Thursday
Those of you who are slated to lead worship this week in the worship arts community at TBC — take heed. There is no Thursday rehearsal. There IS A SATURDAY 9:30am rehearsal instead. String ensemble can pick up their music in the music binders this round (not folders) - thanks to Linda Gifford (music librarian).
TBC's Stage Design featured in latest churchstage
The stage design by our Tech Arts Director, Kaleb Wilcox, was featured by churchstagedesignideas.com this week. And the lighting design was all done by unpaid staff, Carrie Davidson. Way to go Kaleb and Carrie! That's the way to use your talents and time for God's kingdom.
TBC travels to WFX Conference
With the onset of a building project that will house a new worship venue, several of us are attending a conference this week. It's called WFX. You can read more about it here. From TBC, Bryan Nelson, Kaleb Wilcox, Carrie Davidson, Jeremy Helt, and Ian Hoffman are going. There will be several from Fellowship Bible Church who will ride with us. Would you pray for safe travels, excellent learning, and a time of connection with those that are going? Thanks.

Worship Matters 11/1/2011 - Light Show Video Spoof
Parents of 50+ will remember to set their clocks for the end of Daylight Saving this Sunday
We've got a great ball rolling with the kids choir this upcoming Sunday. Don't forget to roll your clocks back — saving an hour! Kids will need to be at church for the 7:15am run through, we'll sing 1st hour, then breakfast in the gym (thanks to Di Holloway for coordinating). A big thanks to Stacy Waldy for directing the kids again this fall! Looking forward to Sunday.

Kaleb's Blog: Simplify Everything
There comes a point in every ministry at which you need to revisit the things you are doing and clarify why you are doing them. Just to be clear, I'm not talking about why are we doing ministry at all, but rather asking about the nuts and bolts, hands-on methodology of the ministry. If your goal is to help kids grow in their faith, there are dozens of approaches you could take. In the tech world we have the same situation. If I want to provide a way for people to view the message from this past Sunday, I could take several approaches. As I've worked through these choices in various areas of the tech ministry, the theme that emerges is "simplify."Read more...

Worship Matters 10/25/2011 - 50+ in Kids Choir, Light Show 45 days ahead
50 Kids involved with Kids Choir, next rehearsal will be in the Xenos Room
We had a great turnout for the kids choir this fall! With our first rehearsal under our belt, we are looking forward to leading worship soon. Here's the schedule coming up. Remember, next week's rehearsal will be in the Xenos Room of the College Avenue Building.
KIDS CHOIR
- Sun, Oct 30 at 4:30-5:30pm Rehearsal
- Thu, Nov 3 at 6:30pm-7:30pm Rehearsal
- Sun, Nov 6 at 7:15am Worship (daylight savings)
Light Show: 45 days ahead
Yes, it's less than 2 months away now. We have some very unique and exciting components of the show this year that will be memorable. Remember, we want people to remember the Christmas story — because it's the only story that has true power to change lives. That's why we do it. Our hope is for new life in Christ to be found through our efforts. We want God with us and to work in the hearts of people ahead of time. Would you pray for that with us? Sign up to help online.

Worship is about saying "no"
From Bryan's blog: You’ve got decisions to make every minute of your life. Have you ever struggled with what to say "yes" to? How about what to say "no" to? The bottom line is you and I have the full control over what we end up focusing our lives on.Read more...
I'll just wing it...
From Kaleb's blog: "I'll just wing it." Wrong! Hopefully this is not an attitude that you find yourself or those on your team struggling with. But if it is, let me encourage you to readjust your thinking on the issue. I would argue that, contrary to "making it up as we go," the work we do in the church deserves our very best preparation and planning. This is especially true for those of us working in the technical arts. As the complexity and detail of our service production increases, the more time must be spent preparing and documenting things in advance.Read more...

Worship Matters 9/27/2011 - Overflow worship night report

Overflow event report
Topeka Bible Church's first time hosting Overflow was a great success, as nearly 500 people attended this extended time of worship at TBC Sunday night. A big thank you to the MANY people who pulled off this event; childcare, greeters, hospitality, tech, musicians, many of whom put in long hours (like 25+ by our light tech, Carrie Davidson). May God be glorified by the use of our time and effort. The next Overflow is December 11th at Fellowship Bible Church. A big thanks to the vision of Erik Oldberg who has created this multi-generational and multi-church event for the sole purpose of bringing value to God and God alone. Here is some of the feedback received Monday morning...
Just wanted both of you to know how much we appreciated TBC hosting Overflow last evening. It was refreshing to see so many young people attending. As I stood and greeted those arriving and said “goodnight” as they left, the number of young people in attendance was awesome and very refreshing!
Overflow=AWESOME!! Well done. It was amazing!! I think it sounded louder this time because we were at TBC & sat up front, which might have added to the awesomeness.
Wow! I just wanted to let you know how awesome this event was. [We] had never gone and fell in love with it. There were so many moments where just overwhelming and you felt God's presence there. It was a great night of worship- thank you for what you do to bring experiences like this to us.
This evening was the best worship experience I have ever had! I wish I could relay a highlight moment but there were just too many to express. Please pass along my sincere gratitude to the entire team that made it come to life. I am, once again, in awe of God's perfect timing at bringing me to this place tonight and teaching me all about Him through music and art. What a spiritually enriching opportunity - all glory to God!

Worship Matters 9/20/2011

Come to the Extended Worship this Sunday Night 9/25 @ Overflow at TBC
TBC will join forces with Fellowship Bible Church and other churches for this special extended time of worship. Many people from many churches come together to make these evenings happen. Join us for a time to reflect, celebrate, and worship our God and Savior. The event is free and no offering will be taken. Sunday, 9/25 from 6:30-8:00PM in the TBC Auditorium (come and leave at any time). Childcare available for infant through 4 years of age.
Orchestra kick-off this weekend
Our orchestra will kick-off the season with our first rehearsal and worship this weekend. We will rehearse Sat, Sept 24 from 9:30am-11am, and then lead worship this Sun, Sept 25 at 7:15am. If you haven't already, log on to planningcenteronline.com to accept/decline for those dates. Would love to have you all there this weekend!
Great kick-off for Vocal Team
It was great to have all of you there on Sunday for our Vocal Team kick-off. Great to see all the new faces, and all the returning ones. Especially liked The Lord's Prayer. Hoping that the words of these songs we are singing are helping move you deeper with Christ. That's our prayer for everyone who comes. Thanks for being a great part of this past week. Our next rehearsal (and weekend) is Thu, Oct 13 from 6-8pm, and then we sing Sun, Oct 16. If you haven't already, log on to planningcenteronline.com to accept/decline for those dates. Would love to have you all there for the next round!
