LIBERIA

Club Facts
Awana was started in Liberia by Mr. John Gaye, the first pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Kakata. Pastor Gaye was privileged to travel to the USA in 1980 at the invitation of the International Council of Christian Churches (ICCC) to attend its conference. At the end of the conference, he stayed for some time and later returned to Liberia as the first Awana missionary.
Current clubs: 65
What Clubbers Do For Fun
Sports: soccer, basketball, volleyball and kickball (female sport)
Food: rice eaten with either cassava leaf, potato greens, bitter ball (garden eggs), palm butter or pepper soup. We also eat dumboy, fufu, gaygba or GB etc with okra soup, palm butter and pepper soup.
How We Celebrate Birthdays: A typical birthday is only celebrated by the literate. In observance of such birthdays, chickens and rice are prepared with either cassava leaf, potato greens, garden eggs, palm butter or pepper soup and shared with the invitees. Those who are illiterate do not even remember their birthdays, so they don’t bother about celebrations.
John 3:16
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
